Welcome to Oxenfoord…
Music at Oxenfoord was launched in 1981 as a week’s residential course for Singers, held at Oxenfoord Castle School, south of Edinburgh from Sat 25th July to Sat 1st August that year. As we approach the Summer of 2024, the course continues to build on decades of masterclasses, coachings, workshops and concerts which is now based in our current home Loretto school in Musselburgh, east of Scotland’s historic capital city. Our staff of leading teachers, coaches, conductors and staff accompanists provide the highest level of tuition and guidance in nurturing and supportive learning environments for students to improve and share their skills.
We’re delighted that the Public Evening Masterclass on the arrival day of Sunday 4th August will be taken by Scottish Tenor Nicky Spence OBE. We also welcome returning Masterclass tutors John Mark Ainsley OBE, Susan Bullock CBE, Karen Cargill, Judith Howarth, Professor Janis Kelly and our Patron Ann Murray DBE. New for 2024 English lyric Soprano Kate Royal offers a Performance Practice Class, and National Opera Studio vocal coach Allyson Devenish joins us again. The Opera Scenes will be led by directors Linda Ormiston OBE and Donald Maxwell with Martin Pickard and Will Vann sharing the conducting. Francesca Lauri, a student pianist at the Royal College of Music joins as this year’s Sam Hutchings pianist prize recipient and Hugh Rowlands joins as this year’s Hester Dickson pianist prize recipient. I look forward to continuing to lead the Art Song Classes at Oxenfoord and would like to thank all my colleagues who make time in their busy Summer to come to Musselburgh for this special week. Please see Tutors and Accompanists for updated biographies of all our staff and Classes for the full range of class descriptions.
