Bursaries are awarded up to £255 (only if attending the course as a full-week resident) and we’re committed to supporting those applicants who are in need of it most. Deadline for all bursaries is Thursday 15th May 2025.

Application Process
To apply for any of these awards or bursary support, please submit a cover letter with your application. This letter should detail your personal circumstances and explain how financial assistance would benefit you.
Additional Requirements for Pianists: Applicants for piano prizes must also include:
- A letter of recommendation from a teacher or mentor
- A curriculum vitae (CV)
- A recent recording, preferably accompanying a vocalist
Please Note: Recipients of piano prizes will collaborate closely with our professional staff pianists, accompanying various lessons, classes, and opera scenes throughout the week. Due to the dynamic nature of the course, repertoire is often assigned on short notice; therefore, exceptional sight-reading abilities are essential.
For pianists seeking bursary support, we encourage applications as part of a duo. Duo participants will work exclusively together, allowing for prior preparation and shared lessons with our esteemed faculty throughout the week.
Additional Information
- Volunteer Commitment: Bursary recipients are expected to contribute time during the week to assist in the smooth operation of the course.
- Accommodation: Shared-occupancy housing will be provided for bursary students.
- Early Applications: We strongly encourage early applications, especially from tenors and basses interested in participating in Opera Scenes.
The McDowell Family Award
We are honoured to offer the McDowell Family Award, a generous bursary covering full course fees and accommodation. This award is designated for a young singer and/or pianist who has been educated in a UK state school. To apply, please include a detailed cover letter with your application, outlining your suitability for this award.
